“The podcasting industry has an accessibility problem.” Greg Soros says it plainly, and his company’s mission is shaped around that view.
Soros founded Podcraft Media Lab, an Austin-based production company. High-paying Fortune 500 clients offered an obvious business model. The podcaster chose to also dedicate resources to mentoring emerging creators from underrepresented communities through the Podcast Academy’s diversity fellowship program.
Soros says his team has the expertise and connections to “level the playing field.” He also describes a responsibility to amplify voices that have not traditionally had access to premium production resources. Greg Soros treats that duty as a cornerstone of his business model rather than a side project.
Mentorship With Measurable Outcomes
The approach has produced results. Several mentees have gone on to major distribution deals. Three shows crossed six figures in downloads before their first anniversary. One former mentee, Maria Rodriguez, recently won a podcasting award for her investigative show “Border Stories.” Soros has helped launch numerous independent shows this way, and he sets aside a portion of his own schedule for the work. The payoff has surprised even him.
Mentees receive wide-ranging instruction. Soros combines technical training rooted in his Berklee College of Music background with lessons learned at major podcasting studios. The curriculum includes narrative structure, sound design, monetization strategies, and audience development, plus practical skills such as pitching to advertisers and building sustainable revenue models.
A Model Others Are Following
The program also leverages the network Greg Soros has built. Through it, emerging creators meet potential sponsors, distributors, and collaborators. That access matters for new creators, who often lack the contacts that established producers rely on.
Major podcast networks have taken notice, and several competitors are developing comparable mentorship programs. Soros considers the shift validation of his long-term vision for the company.
The podcaster ties that vision to the future of audio. “Great content comes from diverse perspectives and authentic voices,” he says. His goal, in his words, is “shaping the future sound of the entire medium.” Refer to this article for related information.
