The Kabbalah Centre Helps Spread Jewish Esoteric Wisdom Across the World

Interest in Jewish mysticism has been steadily growing over the years. Not only are people involved in the New Age getting into the Kabbalah, but also mainstream Hollywood icons are actively practicing sacred teachings of Jewish mysticism. Just a few legends who were known to seek refuge in the Kabbalah in the not too distant past include Elizabeth Taylor, Sammy Davis Jr., and Marilyn Monroe. Today, numerous stars are openly discussing their admiration for the Kabbalah thanks in large part to pop singer Madonna.

Madonna has been very vocal about the influence the Kabbalah has had on her life. In 2006, Madonna told reporters she believes the central teaching of Jewish mysticism is that we are all “put on earth to help people.” She went on to say she believes it is her duty to use her star power to encourage others to enter a Kabbalah Centre and put the teachings of this centuries-old spiritual discipline into practice. After Madonna’s interview, numerous other celebrities told the world about their devotion to the Kabbalah. Just a few of these celebrities include Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Sandra Bernhard.

For those who don’t know, Kabbalah literally means “tradition” in Hebrew and it refers to a collection of esoteric texts designed to help initiates commune with the divine. Sometimes referred to as the “Yoga of the West,” the Kabbalah has informed much Western occultism. Today, most people interested in Western Ceremonial Magic, New Age philosophies, and comparative religious studies must understand basic principles in the Kabbalah.

One non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the wisdom of the Kabbalah with the world is the Kabbalah Centre International. Philip S. Berg, an influential American rabbi, founded the Kabbalah Centre in 1984 with the intent of spreading these teachings with as many people as possible. For centuries, the Kabbalah was only taught to Jewish scholars over the age of 40. Philip S. Berg wanted to change all of that with his Kabbalah Centre. Literally anyone can join a Kabbalah Centre and learn all these sacred texts have to offer. Although a basic understanding of Hebrew and Judaism are helpful, they aren’t a prerequisite to join the Kabbalah Centre. Teachers at the Kabbalah Centre are more interested in seeing connections between various other esoteric religious paths and bringing people of various faiths together towards their quest for spiritual liberation.

The Kabbalah Centre is currently headquartered in Los Angeles. There are Kabbalah Centres in various other major cities, such as Rio de Janerio, Buenos Aires, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Milan, New York City, and Warsaw. In addition to teaching people about the sacred Kabbalah, the Kabbalah Centre is heavily involved in helping organizations such as the American Red Cross, Partners in Health, and Habitat for Humanity.
